Perhaps, I criticize ads a little more since it was my major. I don't claim to be an Advertising or Marketing genius and I don't even work in the industry, but it's almost common sense that your message, slogan or tagline needs to make sense or stand for something. And not just something, something that people can relate to your business.
On my way home tonight, I saw a billboard for a bank. The only thing on the board was text. It said, "We believe in Santa. But we believe in you more." (Or something very close to that.) I'm grasping at things that I want my bank to believe in me about. I guess if I'm trying to get a loan or something, I hope they can look past perhaps what ever about my financial status may be a hindrance. But overall, I just don't get it.
Maybe one of you can enlighten me or confirm that it's a lame ad for a bank. If you have a lame/questionable ad, please share! I know I heard something wacko on the radio recently as well; I just can't recall it.

Must Sleep...
Originally posted on MySpace Blog
Okay so I had a couple hours of sleep last night - I shouldn't complain. I just know it's not going to be enough to sustain me through today with everything I need to do. So that means I'm just not going to do it all today and my evenings before the trip home are going to suck. Yay!
I saw Trans-Siberian Orchestra yesterday with my friend Fred. (Partial payment for him taking me to Springsteen last month. Those tickets were friggin expensive!) Anyhow, my mom took me to see TSO last year for my birthday and it was just as phenomenal this year. The first half of the show is a story about Christmas and a bunch of their original Christmas songs and kick ass arrangements. I'm sure many of you have heard some of their stuff, but watching the show and watching them do some of the non-Christmas stuff is truly amazing. These musicians are extraordinary - they play it all. Rock, Jazz, Blues, Classical... you name it. I'm not sure I can ever get enough of Angus Clark playing "Flight of the Bumble Bee."
After the concert we went to the Land Rover Club Christmas party. I'm not big on going to parties where I don't know any one but it wasn't bad. They really are a good eclectic bunch of people and I even got a gift out of it! Fortunately, I didn't manage to pick one of the Land Rover themed presents. It's a cool truck and all but some of these folks are just obsessive. Cool, fun but obsessive. (We won't mention the house the party was at had an off-road course in the back yard. Intoxication + Off-roading + snow = ...) I didn't get home until around 1:30! I was exhausted since I left the house for the concert at 1:15.
Well I really need to get going. I'm supposed to be meeting Jacek in 45 mins to do some Christmas shopping. Needless to say I need to get out of my pjs. After shopping, I'll be at Franzy's 2nd Annual Birthday Bowlarama! The all you can bowl deal doesn't start till 8. So it's going to be another late evening – thankfully not as late as last night. Hopefully I'll remember to take some pics to add for you all to see.
Today's parting thought: You know how some people just don't like certain words - mainly descriptive ones. I knew someone who didn't like the word "moist." Anyhow, what gets me lately are cheese adjectives. The ex and I used to always joke and get grossed out by that Taco Bell commercial from about a year and half to 2 years ago that talked about the "Melty Bubbly Cheese." I'm just not sure how appetizing that is. The other day I heard a grocery store commercial advertising their weekly specials and "Chunk Cheese" was on sale. Now that is just sick. Crumble cheese doesn't bother me but Chunk does... It's just the way it sounds. Perhaps it's the whole blowing chunks thing. I dunno. Anyhow, that's that.
Cheers!

more randomness
Originally posted on MySpace Blog
So, remember I mentioned the random email I got from the foreign guy I went on a few dates with? I received another random email the other day.
As many of you know I started dating again back in June. Seeing as I'm not really into the idea of meeting/dating someone from work, I opted to join Match and eHarmony just to get out there and meet people. Not like I didn't know it already but there are some weird people out there. I got matched up with a guy my friend actually went on a date with and nicknamed him "the foot banger." Anyhow, I went out on some dates with a few guys, and then I went back to St. Louis for a friend's wedding. While there, one of my friends agreed to be my date to the wedding. After some old feelings made their way to the surface and became fresh feelings, I decided to hide my profiles on the sites. My subscriptions came up for renewal recently, and I opted to cancel them as I figure out what those feelings mean and just deal with the rest of what life seems to be throwing my way.
So a few days ago, I got an eHarmony notification that I received a communication from a past match that I closed. There's a few things wrong with this...
1. I closed that match at the latest in the beginning of October and he's just now responding and wishing me luck.
2. As of the end of November, I am no longer an eHarmony subscriber/member. Which essentially leads to:
3. As a web geek, that's a code screw up. I'd think if someone's profile is now hidden, you shouldn't be able to send communication. Even more so, if I am no longer a member why are you emailing me anything besides solicitations to rejoin (which thankfully they aren't.)
Anyhow, I just find it funny that over 2 months after I "close" a connection or tell a guy it's just not going to work I get emails. Weird. After consulting with a guy friend, we decided I'm not even emailing the foreign guy to tell him "No. I still don't think it will work."
Enough of that. I know, it's kind of a lame blog. I just had to laugh at with someone other than myself.
Keep your fingers crossed for baby Otto. He's still lookin scrawny, but I'm watching him and weighing him. It's going to be hard to leave him for 13 days. I'm sure Stacia will take good care of him and Ru when she's looking after him. The a-hole better be able to stop in and check on them and the house at least once around Christmas - not like he's actually doing anything or celebrating.
One week till vaca!
Cheers,
Franz

Random Stuff...
Originally posted on MySpace Blog
Well here's some random things, thoughts and what ever from recent experiences. I figured at least one of you would enjoy some of this.
I'm attempting to determine if Otto is sick or just growing. At first, I noticed he doesn't seem to be eating as much and he's feeling thinner. I thought it may have had to do with the malfuntioning furnace and how cold it's been in the house. He also hasn't been annoying as he normally is lately. Finally today, as I'm looking at him, he does look skinny but I think he's finally starting to lose the kitten look. So perhaps he's just getting longer and stretching out what weight he has. I guess as long as he keeps acting (mostly) normal, I'll assume he's okay. I'm sure he'll be pissy when I leave him for almost 2 weeks for the holidays. We won't mention Rufus seems to be partially taking over what ever Otto isn't eating now. He's looking like a big ball these days.
Speaking of resolving malfunctioning furnaces... Apparently it's not all it's cracked up to be. The water from the kitchen sink is no longer "cold." It's now that funky slightly warmish cold.
Quite often, song lyrics rhyme. How come sometimes you'll feel some band's rhyming lyrics are just horrid. *coughnicklebackcough* Then you'll listen to some song by another band that you actually really like and the rhyming is just as evident but it don't seem to drag the whole song down to suckage. Then the worst part is when a song by the sucky band isn't half bad and gets stuck in your head and then you want to bang it against your desk because you're actually liking a song by such a group... yeah.
Let's move on to the "What the hell is wrong with..." portion of this rambling.
So, I'm sure you've heard about the church/ministry shootings in Colorado over the weekend. I understand that organized religion is something that drives people to many things and churches/holy ground is often seen as a place of sanctuary. I remember talking to a lady who told me she used to think how safe her church was until her purse got stolen out of her car while she was at mass. Obviously there's a false sense of security when there, but seriously... Since when do you need Security Guards at a church?! I mean, it's a great thing that Colorado church had one and she took the shooter out, but really? a Security Guard? I guess I've never seen one of these crazy massive churches, not that I know if that was what this one in Colorado was, but what the hell is wrong with the world today that churches need security guards? I know I could do similar rants about schools and metal detectors, etc. but anyhow...
Toys. When I and many of you were kids they seemed innocent enough. Matchbox cars, Lincoln logs, Barbie, Legos, etc. Each year at work, we "Adopt-a-Family" and buy Christmas gifts that they ask for. Today we were doing research on one thing a 10 year old girl wanted. She wanted one of those doll heads that you can put make-up on, etc. Now, I'll agree that they were always a tad morbid, it's like having your very on decapitated head you can put make up on and play with it's hair. Well it apparently is hard to find an African-American one that isn't at least 50 bucks. We started digging around trying to find something that would work. While searching, I came across some toys that just cracked me up or creeped me out... Here are two of them:
These days, you just can't have a styling head. You need a torso and arms too! We saw a couple of these in our search for that gift; however the picture on this one was just too creepy. At first I didn't notice the arms, and I'm like "Oh my god, it's dismembered!" There is just something bout a life-size head and upper body that your child can play with is just weird. The kid looks a little wacko too.
Hopefully she doesn't have a kid sister. Someone better hide the hatchet. Look mommy, now she's just like my doll! Check it out here.
I know it's not her technical name, but I like to call her Burlesque Barbie. Originally I only saw the blonde one, but now I see there's a few hair color options. I wonder if they come with the chair too! They call it Broadway greats but yeah... Perhaps they're attempting to teach little girls what "All that Jazz" really means.
Blonde
Red
Brunette
Okay, that's enough for now I guess. Here's a Birfday shout out to all my fellow December peeps. Seems to be a bunch of us this month. ;)

Here’s your damn blog!

Quit whining already! Okay, just kidding...
It's cold and snowy. I'm surprised I haven't keeled over and died yet. I got back fromSt. Louis last Tuesday evening to find the door between the house and garage wide open. Stupid people who came to look at the house didn't even close it correctly. My heat must have been cranking from sometime on Friday and it just couldn't keep up. The house was 45 degrees when I walked in. My poor kitties! Since then, the heater just hasn't been quite right. I think I need to have it looked at. Bleh! It snowed about 7 inches yesterday during the day. I shoveled twice. It's amazing how I always forget how evil shoveling is. It is fun and all at first. Then you start getting a little numb and sweaty. Then when you walk into the house the temp change kills you. I would buy a snow blower but I wasn't planning on being in the house for the leaves - let alone snow.
Anyhow, my trip toSt. Louis for Turkey day was good. Family as always can drive you a little batty, but I managed to have some time to myself and with some friends. Funny thing - while I was there I got an email from that foreign guy I went on 2 dates with a while back. Back in late Sept. or early Oct. I told him I didn't think we were a good match. So he emails me, asking me if I still feel the same way and do I think it is something we can work on. Work on?! I don't get it. What is there to work on?! We had 2 dates and really nothing in common. So weird. I haven't replied and I'm not sure I even want to (knowing what little I know about him, it is almost an invitation to prolong the conversation.)
Now, back to the trip... The nephews and niece are cute as ever. I hate living away from them sometimes. As for what a few of you are really wondering about (the real reason I went home instead of the folks coming here), yes I got to see that guy again. I saw him twice and I had a great time. It's still very surreal - to be reunited with someone who was such a huge part of your life and is becoming that again, if not already. I won't dwell any further on it to spare you all...
As for work, that big project that was killing me lightened up. We hired a contractor to help out with the excess workload, so I went into my Thanksgiving mini-vaca thinking that things were going to be okay on that front. It turns out while I was away, the guy we hired had a health scare related to his heart. I'm not exactly sure what happened but he was hospitalized last week and is rumored to be returning this week. He's a really nice guy. He was already in a bad situation with previously being laid off and apparently so was his wife and they have kids - last thing they need is health problems and medical bills. I hope he's okay - for his sake not my workload :P
Anyhow, there's the update I know some of you have been looking for. I'm going back to cleaning and playing WoW - yeah dorky, I know. But that's why you all love me!
Cheers,
Franz
