To Resolute or not?

Originally posted on MySpace Blog

So, what's the deal with people's obsession with making New Year's Resolutions? If I want to do something like start eating better, working out, being more optimistic or whatever, I don't need to make a pledge on a certain day. I just do it. But, to each their own. So why was I told this year by a family member that I HAVE to make a resolution?

I get the fact that the past year wasn't that great for me. However, since the big smack upside the head that life dealt, it's a matter of reviewing and possibly changing my way of life and looking at things. Isn't that one big generic resolution? Anyhow, I guess for me it comes down to when we made them with my family when we were younger, it never worked. So why bother now? If I want to make a change I'm going to do it. No matter the time of year, no matter if I say it aloud in front of family or friends, no matter what the circumstances - you just do it. Perhaps we're just following an archaic tradition for that festive time of year.

So I want to know (the few of you who actually read this) do you make a New Year's Resolution?
